High referral counts often reflect one pharmacy receiving most of a practice's referrals. Counts and ranks show volume only, not quality of care or access.

The two charts come from different NHSBSA releases and cover different months, so they should not be added together. In the lower chart, each hidden count is estimated at 2.5.
Figures cover February 2024 to January 2026, so they are larger than the 12-month figure above. Each hidden row is a count of 1 to 4, which is why the low and high columns differ. Rows are split by medicine, so a consultation can be counted more than once.

Pharmacies this practice referred to most, November 2019 to April 2024

Distances are straight lines between postcodes. Pharmacy activity counts all of a pharmacy's patients, not only patients of this practice.

Referrals cover May 2023 to April 2024. Consultations cover February 2025 to January 2026. Rates use current registered list sizes, and counts show volume rather than quality. Select a row to switch practice.

GP referrals to pharmacy

NHSBSA FOI-01754 and FOI-02020, November 2019 to April 2024. Each row holds the GP name and postcode as typed by the pharmacy, so Arjus matches rows to practices by postcode, then postcode and name, then postcode district and name. Rows marked "GP Practice Not Known" or left blank stay unmatched and appear only in the England figures. A wrong match is possible, so treat small differences between practices with care.

Clinical pathway consultations

NHSBSA FOI-03560, February 2024 to January 2026. Counts of 1 to 4 are hidden as "*". Arjus estimates each hidden count at 2.5 and shows the range using 1 and 4. Rows are split by medicine, so consultations can be double counted.

Rates and rankings

Rates use the current registered list size held by Arjus, including for earlier periods, so a practice that has grown or merged since will show a lower rate than it had at the time. Rankings include open practices with an ICB; ties are ordered arbitrarily, so a rank is a guide rather than an exact position.

Reading high referral counts

Referrals are very unevenly spread between practices, and many of the highest counts go mainly to a single pharmacy, sometimes a long way from the practice. This data does not show why, so high counts and ranks should not be read as good or poor practice. Use the Pharmacies tab to see where a practice's referrals went. Practices appear under their current name, so referrals recorded under an earlier name are shown under the current one.
